Iran is mainly known for the Ayatollahs and other fanatic followers
of Islam, but we think that underneath this "black façade"
there
is a totally different Iran. We visited this country in the spring
of 2000 for 6 weeks and at that time concentrated on finding certain
plant species that only grow in the mountains of Iran. (The genus
Dionysia). During this trip we experienced unbelievable hospitality
in Iran.
In
our preparations for this trip we made contact with Iranian families
in our home town and have developed great friendship that we would
not like to miss. Especially the great warmth that we received
during this trip was a revelation. For us definitely a reason
to go back to Iran, but we also want to spend more time in finding
alpine plants and hope therefore that we can stay for a longer
period in Iran.
